The Dumbing Down of America
With budget cuts in education on national and state levels occurring across the U.S., one has to wonder what might be behind these cuts. It could be argued that an uneducated population - or at least one that does not think critically - would be extremely useful to those in power. It could also be argued that the acceptance of the country's endeavors in the Middle East and Afghanistan are a direct result of this type of thinking. It has to be considered highly problematic that funding cuts to education are a result of enormous spending on the elite's war games and power ploys.

It makes me sick to think of people scrambling to pay their student loans back, or people not going to school even if they want to--all because it's TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE. While elsewhere in the world, people go for FREE.

Budget cuts are threatening faculty positions, student funding, and class offerings at universities across the nation. Whatever is happening here, it is clear that the leaders of the U.S. have their priorities in questionable places.

ReplyDeleteRegardless, academia has always had a reputation for nurturing subversive thinking. It only makes sense that funding would be taken away. But, like everything else, higher education is big business. It's only a matter of time before corporate corruption takes its toll on universities.
Even our founding fathers knew that the general population was incapable of governing themselves. That's why we have the electoral college. Men of wealth and power generally know what's best for the rest of society.
